Raipur, July 25 - About 250 junior doctors returned to work Saturday at the Bhimrao Ambedkar Government Medical College and Hospital after Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh agreed to concede their main demands.

The junior doctors, who had gone on strike July 16, called off their agitation after the chief minister agreed in principle to their demands, at a meeting with a delegation of the Junior Doctors' Association led by its president Pushpendra Naik and vice-president Vivek Agrawal.

'We are pleased having a meeting with Raman Singh and he largely agreed to concede three basic demands -- rise in stipend, increase in number of postgraduate (PG) seats in the college and implementing the Medical Protection Act,' Naik told reporters here.

The doctors' return to duty was greeted by relief by over 650 patients admitted to the hospital besides dozens of outpatients, most of them from poor families.

The 700-bed hospital -- the largest in the state -- treats over 400 patients every day.
