Bhopal, July 23 - At least 11 people have died in the heavy rains lashing Madhya Pradesh for the third consecutive day Thursday, officials here said.

Some roads have been blocked temporarily due to the overflowing of rivers and streams at several places.

'While three people died of electrocution while trying to drain water from their houses in Mhow (near Indore), eight people were killed in Indore', Collector Rakesh Shrivastava told IANS.

Three other people were swept away in Chhindwara district Wednesday.

Meanwhile, thousands of tourists are left stranded at Matkuli near Hoshangabad district, close to the Panchmarhi hill station, due to the overflowing of Denwa river. The area has received 290 mm rainfall since Wednesday.

A high alert has been declared in Indore and the state has ordered closure of all schools and colleges, said Pipariya District Commissioner S.B. Singh.
