Kolkata, Nov 16 - It is bad news for those who are in the habit of parking their vehicles just about anywhere at night. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) is set to implement stringent norms on night parking on major city thoroughfares.
'Owners of public and private vehicles are taking undue liberty during night and they are parking their vehicles much beyond the areas earmarked for night parking,' Municipal Commissioner Arnab Roy said.
He said vehicles found illegally parked on busy city streets in night would be seized. The owners would then be fined heavily.
'We need to take stern action against illegal parking and hence we decided to begin this drive.'
According to KMC officials, each private bus owner will have to shell out Rs.2,500 while for other four-wheelers such as mini bus, taxi, private cars and contract carriages, the fine would range between Rs.1,300 and Rs.1,500. Owners of two-wheelers found parked in no-parking zones would have to shell out Rs.800.
