Kolkata, Sep 23 - Former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee Wednesday said that politics of confrontation should be avoided and that there were 'some national issues which we need to achieve working together'.
Chatterjee was speaking at the inauguration of Ambuja Realty's 'Ecospace' Business Park here Wednesday.
Chatterjee was expelled from his Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) July 23 for defying the party diktat that he relinquish the post of speaker of Lok Sabha before the Manmohan Singh government's trust vote.
The move was expected but the action nevertheless shocked many since the veteran leader had been with the CPI-M for over four decades.
Chatterjee said the nation should pay more attention about how to reach the ultimate goal. He said: 'We need to do some introspection about why we can't work together?'
