Chandigarh, Sep 22 - A 35-year-old teacher from a Punjab town swallowed poison Tuesday when she was unable to meet a top education official and submit an appeal for deferring her transfer orders, police said.
Sanjana, resident of Baghapurana town in Moga district in Punjab, had come to meet the director general of school education (DGSE) cum state project director of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan at his office here in Sector 34 Tuesday, police said.
Sanjana wanted to meet the officer to submit her appeal for deferring her transfer orders that were issued some days back, the police said.
However, she could not meet the officer as he was busy, and out of frustration she consumed poisonous pills (sulphas) outside his office.
'The woman was immediately shifted to a government hospital in serious condition. We are investigating the matter and have booked a case against the woman for attempting suicide,' said a police officer.
