Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 18 - A mild earthquake, measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale, was recorded in Thiruvanthapuram district Friday evening, officials said.
The epicentre of the two-and-half-second quake, which occurred at 6.40 p.m. was 18 km north west of the state capital, a meteorological department official told IANS.
People living in and around the Technopark campus and in some parts in the state capital experienced the tremors and there were frantic calls to several media offices.
M. Baba, director of the Centre for Earth Science Studies said that the quake was too minor and nothing to worry about.
'Tremors of this size do happen all over the world and there is no need to fear,' he said.
