Muzaffarabad (Pakistan), Sep 17 - Thirty people were killed and 40 others injured Thursday when the passenger bus in which they were traveling veered off the road and fell into a deep ravine here in eastern Pakistan, a media report said.

The accident took place near the Meera Degree area when the driver lost control while negotiating a sharp turn, the police said.

Assistant commissioner of police Abdul Hameed Kiyani confirmed the death toll.

The bus fell into a 1,000-feet deep canyon, eyewitnesses said.

The victims were returning home to celebrate Eid with their families, Geo TV said citing police.

Twenty-five injured people were shifted to hospitals.
