New Delhi, Sep 14 - With the Indian Navy being made the nodal agency for coastal security, navy chief Admiral Nirmal Verma will Tuesday address the state police chiefs on the issue.
The three-day state police chiefs conference started here Monday.
'Post-Mumbai terror attack last November, the navy was made the nodal agency for the coastal security. Following the mandate, the marine police or the coastal police has also come under the ambit of the navy,' said an Indian Navy spokesperson.
'The navy chief's address will outline the key areas and tasks to beef up the coastal security to avert any Mumbai like attacks in future,' he said.
The Mumbai terror attack in 2008 brought to the fore the lacunae in coastal security with 10 armed terrorists entering the city undetected though its coast. After the attack, blame was put on multiple security agencies like the coastal police, Coast Guard and the Indian Navy.
In a major revamp, the Indian Navy was appointed nodal agency for coastal security.
