Tehran, Sep 13 (Xinhua) Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Sunday said he hopes the British government would 'correct its past behaviour' towards the Islamic country, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.
'We hope that the British government would learn well from its past and move on the path of correcting its behaviour,' Ahmadinejad said in a meeting with new British Ambassador to Iran Simon Gass.
The president said Iranians have a lot of negative memories from their relationships with the British government, and 'your most important mission as an ambassador (in Iran) is to change these negative memories into positive ones'.
'Iranians won't allow anybody to interfere in its domestic affairs and we hope the British government to compensate for its mistakes,' he added.
Tehran said some Western countries, especially Britain, irresponsibly interfered in Iran's internal affairs during the post-election unrests in an attempt to implement a 'velvet coup' against the country's religious system.
However, Britain has rejected the charges.
