Agartala, Sep 13 - The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) will observe the birth centenary of two legendary communist leaders E.M.S. Namboodiripad and Nripen Chakraborty in an attempt to revitalize leftist ideology among the new generation.

EMS, as the Marxist leader Elamkulam Manakkal Sankaran Namboodiripad was popularly known, led the first left party government in Kerala April 5, 1957 as chief minister. Father figure of communist movement in Tripura, Nripen Chakraborty, a man with a spartan lifestyle and unblemished political career, was the chief minister of Tripura from 1978 to 1988.

'The centenary celebrations of EMS have begun in different parts of India in early July, while observance of the centennial birth anniversary of Nripen Chakraborty would start in January next year,' said CPI-M Tripura state secretary Bijon Dhar.

'As part of the birth centenary celebrations, meetings, seminars, discussions and publications on their life and work, colourful rallies would be organised where several top leaders would take part.
