Ghaziabad, Sep 8 - A total of 53 people were arrested in Ghaziabad Tuesday for their alleged involvement in large-scale violence and rioting Sunday on the National Highway-24.
Police had Sunday night registered an FIR against 59 named and 1200 unidentified people for rioting and causing damage to government and private vehicles on NH-24. A total of 17 fresh FIRs were registered Tuesday on the complaints of 17 people whose vehicles were burned by rampaging mobs.
More raids were expected to be carried out Tuesday night in several illegal colonies along the highway.
'We have recorded the statements of the arrested persons and videographed them. All the arrested persons will be booked under NSA (National Security Act). We have identified 12 land mafia who will be nabbed. More arrests will be made soon,' Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Akhil Kumar said.
