New Delhi, Sep 8 - Hockey India (HI) Tuesday suspended a training camp for the Under-18 boys Asia Cup at Bhopal after medical tests shockingly revealed that almost all the selected probables fudged their age.
The 55 boys shortlisted from nearly 100 probables, drawn from 15 hockey academies across the country, were to undergo training in two phases before selecting the team for the tournament at Myanmar capital Yangon in November.
After the Sept 3-4 trials, medical tests Monday showed that almost 50 boys were over age.
'We could not have run the camp with a handful of boys, so we decided to call it off,' HI president A.K. Mattoo told IANS.
'It is mandatory for the probables to undergo the medical tests because of growing complaints of fudging of age. We will not tolerate it and the academies have been asked to explain. There is no question of compromising on the age factor.'
'We will soon select probables of genuine age and reschedule the camp,' he said.
