Srinagar, Aug 28 - Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Friday reiterated that his government would brook no laxity in bringing to justice those responsible for the rape and murder of two women in Shopian district.
Omar made this assurance to the Independent Women's Group (IWIG) members who called on him here Friday and shared their views with the chief minister after visiting Shopian town.
'Nobody involved in covering or trying to cover up the heinous crime will be tolerated,' the chief minister said.
The IWIG is a non-governmental initiative group of some prominent women including Oma Chaturvadi, Seema Mishra, Ravindra Grover and Anuradha Bhasin, who are here on a fact finding mission about the May 30 incident in south Kashmir's Shopian district where two women, Nilofar Jan, 22 and her sister-in-law Asiya, 17, were raped and murdered.
Omar told the group he would direct the special investigating team (STI) probing the case to work round the clock and make the investigation more pro-active till the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) takes over.
