New Delhi, Aug 18 - A 35-year-old woman was allegedly set afire Tuesday by her nephew following an altercation in Alipur area of Delhi.

Police said it was apparently a crime of passion.

'The victim apparently had illicit relation with her nephew. But after she refused to meet him, a heated argument ensued between the two,' said a police official, requesting anonymity.

'The accused beat her and then set her ablaze in a fit of rage,' the official said.

The woman's screams alerted the neighbours, following which the attacker fled and was absconding. The woman was taken to the Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital where she is currently undergoing treatment.

'According to doctors the victim received over 90 percent burn injuries. A case of attempt to murder has been registered against the accused,' he added.
