New Delhi, Sep 24 - Delhi Mayor Kanwar Sain Thursday launched a four-week drive asking Delhiites to ensure that the national capital stayed 'clean and green' during the Durga Puja and Dussehra celebrations.
Sain announced that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is launching the 'Special Clean and Green Delhi Drive' effective from Friday.
'It will be ensured that proper standard of sanitation, cleanliness, maintenance and horticulture is set by the field agencies with proper supervision at the ground level,' Sain said.
Sain said he has requested municipal councillors, chairmen of ward committees to co-operate and guide municipal staff engaged in various works during the drive.
Additional commissioners and deputy commissioners of all 12 MCD zones have also been roped in to ensure proper implementation.
'They shall inspect the areas under their charge in the morning and record their observation,' Sain said.
Officers of MCD's environment management services (EMS) department have also been directed to ensure that road-side piles of silt and wastes are collected from market areas, commercial complexes, residential colonies, religious places and disposed of at sanitary landfill sites (SLFs) on an urgent basis.
A senior MCD official said: 'All public conveniences shall be cleaned, washed and treated with disinfectants.
