Bhubaneswar, Sep 23 - Sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik Wednesday created an image of goddess Durga and burning earth on the beach at Puri in Orissa to create awareness global warning.
Pattnaik created the face of the goddess who was shown wearing green leaves as ornaments with a burning globe behind her at the Puri beach, 56 km from here.
The colourful sand sculpture he created with the help of the students of his Golden Sand Art Institute is seven feet high.
'We have used 10 tonnes of sand and worked for about five hours to create this sculpture,' Patnaik told IANS.
'Global warming is a serious problem the earth is facing and everybody is concerned about it. As world leaders are meeting in the US for the G20 summit, I created the image to spread awareness,' he said.
Patnaik has participated in over 40 international sand sculpture championships and won many awards.
