Jammu, Sep 22 - One Vaishno Devi pilgrim died and more than 20 others were injured in two separate incidents Tuesday evening, according to reports reaching here.
A landslide on the pilgrimage track near Saanji Chhat, one of the stopovers enroute the 13-km track to the shrine, left one person dead. The incident took place around 7.30 p.m.
The track is crowded with the rush of pilgrims.
Twenty other pilgrims were injured when a bus in which they were travelling had a head-on collision with a passenger bus coming from the opposite direction at Nandini, 25 km north of Jammu on the Jammu-Srinagar highway. The injured have been shifted to the Government Medical College hospital in Jammu. All the injured are locals of Jammu.
More than 50,000 pilgrims are arriving for 'darshan' of the deity during the Navratras- nine days in the Hindu calendar considered auspicious for undertaking the pilgrimage. The Navratras started Sep 19.
Katra town, the base camp for the pilgrimage, 45 km north of Jammu, is bristling with the rush of pilgrims from all over the country. More than 7.5 million pilgrims visit the shrine nestled in the Himalayan foothills, 13 km up from the base camp, every year.
