Bangkok, Sep 21 (DPA) Rafael Nadal Monday gave up on his plan to play the Thailand Open next week as he continues to try and let an abdominal muscle problem heal.
Spain's world number two has been bothered by the niggle since August but had said as late as last weekend that he would make his debut in Thailand at the ATP event which has also featured Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic at past editions.
But after missing Spain's win into the final of the Davis Cup, organisers said Nadal's camp confirmed that the player would not be able to travel to Asia.
Nadal's website said the four-time French Open winner is under the care of federation Dr Angel Ruiz Cotorro 'to determine the effect this injury may have on him'.
In addition to playing in Bangkok, Nadal had been reportedly planning a short beach holiday at the Thai resort of Krabi.
