Islamabad, Sep 18 - Pakistan was elected to the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Friday under the reserved seat for the Middle East and South Asia (MESA), the Online news agency reported.
The decision was taken at the ongoing IAEA General Conference in Vienna Sep 14-18. Pakistan will now start its 17th two-year term on the IAEA board, Pakistan's foreign office said in a statement.
Pakistan's election to the Board of Governors is a recognition of its commitment to the aims and objectives of the IAEA, the statement added.
During its term on the board, Pakistan will work closely with the IAEA for the development of peaceful nuclear energy, the statement said.
