New Delhi, Sep 17 - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Thursday appealed to President Pratibha Patil for early elections in Jharkhand, which is under the President's Rule since Jan 19.
'We informed the president that keeping the legislative assembly in suspended animation had no logic as no political party in Jharkhand is in a position to form a new government,' Raghuvar Das, Jharkhand BJP president, told reporters after meeting the president.
Das had led a delegation of BJP leaders from Jharkhand.
Das said people of the state were 'shocked' when the Election Commission announced the poll dates for three states but not for Jharkhand.
Jharkhand came under President's Rule after then chief minister Shibu Soren lost a crucial assembly by-poll and quit the post.
Parliament in July extended the President's Rule in the state till Jan 19 next year. The assembly elections are due in March next year.
