New Delhi, Sep 16 - Delhi High Court Wednesday asked the government to implement at the earliest job reservation for people with disabilities.
A division bench of Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice Manmohan asked the government to implement the reservation policy on the vacant seats designated under the disability quota and said: 'The government should be ashamed... no steps have been taken to protect the rights of disabled people.
'Now when the Supreme Court has refused to grant stay, our orders should be implemented immediately,' the bench said and asked the government to file a status report on this matter.
The high court had directed the government to fully comply with the Disabilities Act under which three percent jobs should be reserved for the disabled, including one percent for visually impaired candidates, according to its 1996 notification.
The court was hearing a plea by the National Federation of the Blind.
