Allahabad, Sep 16 - Two police constables who allegedly shot at a truck driver after he refused to bribe them were sacked Wednesday in Uttar Pradesh's Allahabad district, officials said.
The incident occurred in Naini locality around 4 p.m. when policemen Subedar Saroj and Suresh Singh stopped a truck and demanded Rs.500 from the driver, Ram Suresh.
'Ram Suresh was carrying a consignment of lambs from Mirzapur to Delhi when he was stopped. The constables demanded Rs.500. When he refused, one of them fired at him from his service rifle,' a witness told the police.
The driver has been admitted to a hospital in critical condition. The two constables have been arrested.
'Both constables have been terminated from service and Inspector Pravesh Mishra of Naini police station has been suspended for negligence,' Deputy Inspector General of Allahabad Chandra Prakash told IANS over telephone.
