Lucknow, Sep 15 - A Dalit man committed suicide after giving poison to four of his children in Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. Two kids are dead, police said Tuesday.
Bal Karan, 33, and two of his children - six-year-old son Ram Prakash and eight-year old daughter Geeta - were found dead Tuesday inside their house in Aurangabad village of Shahjahanpur, about 240 km from state capital Lucknow.
'While Karan and two kids were found dead, two other children were lying unconscious,' police inspector Naurangi Lal told IANS.
'The two children are being treated in a district hospital where their condition is critical,' he added.
According to police, some tablets of Sulphas were found lying near Karan's body.
'Preliminary investigation reveals that poverty drove Karan to take this extreme step. Karan, who worked as a daily-wage labourer, was not able to look after his four children properly. His wife had left him nearly two years ago,' Lal said.
Locals told police that Karan used to say that he would kill himself along with his four children if his financial condition does not improve, he added.
