Lucknow, Sep 14 - An assistant professor of the Chandra Shekhar Azad Agriculture University in Kanpur was shot dead on the campus Monday evening, police said.
Mandavi Singh, an assistant professor in the CSAAU, was shot from close range by two motorcycle-borne assailants.
'She received a gun shot on her face and the assailants also snatched her gold chain before escaping,' Kanpur's Superintendent of Police (Crime) O.P.Singh told IANS by phone.
CSAAU students staged a protest after the incident.
Singh's husband, A.K.Singh, is also an assistant professor in the university.
'A search is on and we hope to nab the culprits soon,' Singh added.
